Onychomycosis is a nail infection, especially on the toes, caused by fungi that feed on keratin. Common cause of these infections can include nail salons and wearing closed shoes that create moist, dark and warm environments.

Typical medical treatments range from topical prescription creams, lotions, nail polishs and even oral anti-fungal medications. Unfortunately most of these treatment require long-term commitment, averaging from at least 6 months to over 1 year of consistent use.

The Nd: Yag laser treatment offers a quick and effective solution for treating fungal nail infections. The laser heats the affected nail and surrounding skin tissue evenly, weakening and killing the parasitic fungi causing the infection.

How It Works

The treatment involves deep, pulse-profile heating of the nail bed, which kills the fungus. This allows the body’s natural growth and immune processes to restore the nail to a healthy state. Unlike traditional methods, laser light penetrates evenly and avoids the limitations of topical prescription creams and the side effects of oral medications.

Step 1: Nail Filing

We file down the deformed, overgrown, and thickened nail to allow the laser light to fully penetrate the treatment site.

Step 2: Laser Application

Nd: Yag laser pulses are applied in a circular pattern to cover the entire nail, ensuring full coverage and a slight heating sensation.

Step 3: Perimeter Treatment

The laser pulses are also targeted around the perimeter of the nail bed and the surrounding tissue to eliminate any fungus beyond the nail bed and prevent recurrence.

How many treatments do I need?

Typically we recommend a full treatment of 2-4 sesssions. Treatment is typically performed four times at 4-6 weeks intervals, treating all nails during each session to ensure comprehensive and effective results. You can continue to use topical creams to treat the nails between laser sessions.
